In response to a tragic accident resulting in the loss of six lives, the Punjab Education Department has implemented a crucial change for students riding motorcycles.
Following an incident in the Defence Phase 7 area of the provincial capital where a teenager named Afanan caused a fatal accident, the authorities are now requiring all students on motorcycles to possess a valid driver's licence.
The move aims to address concerns about underage drivers posing risks on the road. The Punjab Education Department emphasised the importance of this new requirement, making it clear that it will not assume responsibility for accidents involving students without proper licensing.
The tragic incident involved Afanan, who had reportedly clashed with the victims and issued threats before the fatal collision. Allegedly following the victims' car from Y Block, Afanan persistently harassed the family, prompting the victims' driver, Hasnain, to speed up in an attempt to escape.
Despite efforts to evade the pursuit, the accused teenager continued the harassment. Eventually, Hasnain stopped the vehicle to confront Afanan about his behavior.
Even Hasnain's father, traveling in another car, intervened, urging Afanan to cease his harassment. Unfortunately, the situation escalated, leading to Afanan ramming his car into the victims' vehicle at a shocking speed of 160 km/hour near McDonald's Chowk.
