Pakistani model and actress Sana Askari opened up about her battle with postpartum depression and the challenging period following the birth of her child.
During an appearance on Samaa TV's morning show, she shed light on her experience, revealing how her struggle with depression affected her life. Ms Askari, who is known for her work in the entertainment industry, has been married to YouTuber Minhaj Ali Askari, and they welcomed their son in 2016. However, the journey into motherhood was far from easy.
Speaking about her postpartum depression on the morning show, she shared that she chose not to disclose her pregnancy to anyone but her husband, mother, and mother-in-law for the initial five months. She attributed this decision to her past experiences, as she had previously lost two children, and wanted to protect her pregnancy from the negative energies of the evil eye.
Following the birth of her first child, Sana confronted a series of challenges. She noted that inadequate resources in Pakistani hospitals left new mothers without proper guidance on breastfeeding and child-rearing, leaving her with many questions and concerns about motherhood. Little did she know that she was already struggling with postpartum depression, as she experienced bouts of unexplained tears and emotional distress.
Her situation took a more challenging turn when her son was three months old, and she went to the hospital with her mother for her son's treatment. During this visit, Sana discovered that her mother had stage four breast cancer, adding a layer of distress to her life. Seeing her mother's battle with illness and her own struggles as a new mother, Sana's emotions spiraled, leading her to develop anger and resentment towards her husband.

She had unknowingly turned her husband into an outlet for her emotions, as she found it difficult to cope with her feelings. It was only when she began venting her frustration on her child that she realized she needed help.
Recognizing the need for intervention, Sana sought assistance from a psychologist, following a friend's suggestion. Through therapy and support, she was able to confront her postpartum depression and start on the path to recovery.
