A high-level meeting of the civil and military leadership, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has decided to take a firm stance against terrorism and counter anti-national narratives on traditional and digital media.
The meeting, attended by representatives from all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, focused on strengthening national security measures under the National Action Plan. According to sources, a key decision was made to ensure that the perpetrators of the Jaffar Express attack are exposed before the world, leaving no stone unturned in bringing them to justice.
Crackdown on anti-national campaigns
The leadership also resolved to give a befitting reply to anti-national campaigns being run on both traditional and digital media. The civil and military leadership directed the National Narrative Committee to formulate a strong counter-narrative against terrorism and hostile propaganda.
Authorities were directed to effectively dismantle any content that threatens the country’s security, with a special focus on countering fake news, deepfakes, and other digital threats. The meeting emphasised that content promoting national unity and social harmony should be actively shared through digital platforms, while the negative social effects of terrorism should be highlighted to the public.
National narrative into media, education
To ensure long-term awareness, it was decided that terrorism-related awareness will be included in the national curriculum. Additionally, the government will produce films and dramas that highlight national narrative, aiming to engage the youth and counter extremist narratives effectively. Such national themes will be adopted that will effectively counter the narrative of miscreants, the meeting decided.
The meeting also stressed the importance of provincial cooperation in maintaining national security and unity. All provinces will work together to enhance mutual coordination and develop strategies to counter terrorism at all levels.
With a clear and unwavering stance against terrorism, the civil and military leadership reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s national interests, ensuring security, and strengthening the country’s narrative on both local and international platforms.
