WhatsApp is set to enhance its music-sharing capabilities by introducing a Spotify song-sharing feature in status updates.
This upcoming feature, currently in development, will enable users to post songs directly from Spotify to their WhatsApp status, much like Instagram Stories.
How the feature works
The feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.25.8.3 on the Google Play Store. According to WABetaInfo, users will soon see an extra option when sharing music from Spotify.
Alongside the existing option to send a song as a message to contacts or groups, users will be able to post it as a WhatsApp status update.
WhatsApp will generate a preview of the shared track, displaying the song title, artist name, and album cover.
Viewers of the status update will have a ‘Play on Spotify’ button, allowing them to listen to the song directly on Spotify.
This works similarly to how Instagram Stories handle music sharing, making it easier for users to discover new songs without manually searching for them.
Privacy & security considerations
WhatsApp assures that the feature will not compromise user privacy, as status updates remain protected by end-to-end encryption. Only the intended audience will be able to view the shared music content, ensuring no third party—including WhatsApp—can access it.
When will it be available?
As of now, the feature is still in development, and WhatsApp has not announced an official release date. However, it is expected to roll out in a future update.
