A 50-year-old Arab man in Bahrain has been sentenced to five years for his role in forcing his friend's wife into prostitution.
The harrowing story began when the man deceived his wife into believing they were embarking on a honeymoon trip to Bahrain.
However, his real intention was far more sinister - to push her into prostitution with the help of his friend living in the country.
Upon reaching Bahrain, the woman's nightmare began. She found herself confined and subjected to abuse in a flat by the two men.
Threats of violence and even death were used to coerce her into prostitution.
The situation grew increasingly dire until she finally managed to escape and report the horrifying ordeal. Her husband was subsequently arrested.
Initially, the court handed down a severe punishment, sentencing both the husband and his accomplice to 10 years in prison along with a fine of BD2,000 (approximately $5315) each. Upon completion of their sentences, deportation orders were issued for both men.
Additionally, the accomplice's 20-year-old son who was implicated in the case received a 10-year prison sentence.
During the trial, the 50-year-old defendant argued that his involvement was limited to providing temporary shelter to the victim due to marital disputes she had with her husband.
He denied any knowledge of the trafficking plan. His testimony seemed to influence the court's decision. In the final judgment, his sentence was reduced by half though the serious nature of the crime remains evident.
