The dues dispute between Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has escalated, leading to a complete halt in the national airline's flight operations within Pakistan.
According to a PIA spokesperson, only four out of the scheduled 52 international flights were able to operate.
Over the weekend, flights to China, Kuala Lumpur, Canada, and Istanbul operated, and none of 29 scheduled domestic flights were able to take off.
The spokesperson said that payments to PSO were interrupted due to the bank closures over the weekend.
PIA expressed hope that flight operations will resume as soon as today's credit line becomes available.
The airline's management is in constant communication with PSO.
PIA has also assured passengers affected by the current situation that alternatives will be provided.
Earlier today, it was reported that due to severe financial crisis, 25 flights were cancelled.
This disruption has left passengers stranded, as aviation authorities cite a fuel adjustment plan as the root cause.
According to reports, 16 flights departing from Karachi to various airports, as well as three flights from Karachi to Islamabad, have been called off.
Moreover, two flights between Islamabad and Jeddah have also been cancelled.
Under the fuel adjustment plan, the flight operations are expected to see a significant decrease in both domestic and international.
As of today, only five flights are scheduled to operate to and from Karachi.
