WhatsApp introduced a new feature that allowed users to directly link their social media profiles to their accounts, enhancing cross-platform accessibility.
Available to select beta testers, the update aimed to streamline the integration of social media within the messaging app.
With this feature, users could add their social media usernames, automatically generating a clickable link at the top of the chat info page. At that time, only Instagram profiles could be linked, although reports suggested that WhatsApp might extend support to additional platforms in future updates.
To ensure user privacy, WhatsApp also introduced visibility controls, which allowed individuals to decide whether their social media links would be visible to everyone or restricted to their contacts. Users who wished to maintain privacy had the option to opt out of adding any links.
This update was designed to offer a smoother transition between different digital spaces, enabling users to share their profiles more easily without the need to switch between multiple apps.
