Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its thinnest iPhone ever, the iPhone 17 Air, as part of its 2025 lineup. Industry analysts suggest the device will measure between 5.5mm and 6mm in thickness, slimmer than the 6.9mm iPhone 6 released back in 2014.
Prominent leaker Ice Universe claims the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.9-inch display, contradicting earlier reports suggesting a 6.6-inch screen. The device is expected to maintain bezels consistent with the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max model.
Design mockups published by iDeviceHelp reveal a form factor that maintains Apple's signature aesthetic while introducing a distinctive camera bar similar to those found on Google Pixel devices. This horizontal bar design represents a significant departure from Apple's traditional square camera module.
According to leaked internal Apple documents, the iPhone 17 Air will retain several key features from current models, including the Dynamic Island, Face ID technology, and USB-C connectivity. The documents also indicate button placement will remain consistent with existing iPhone designs.
The camera bar configuration may serve both aesthetic and functional purposes, potentially improving device stability when placed on flat surfaces – addressing a common complaint with current iPhone models' protruding camera bumps.
Apple is expected to officially unveil details about the iPhone 17 Air alongside other iPhone 17 models during its annual September event in 2025.
Industry observers note that if the reported 5.5mm thickness is accurate, the iPhone 17 Air would become Apple's thinnest device since the discontinued iPod touch, which measured 6.1mm.
