Samsung Galaxy smartphones are known for their powerful cameras and built-in editing tools.
While users can choose from various preset filters, some may find them too limited for their creative needs. However, there's a hidden feature in the Camera app that lets you create custom filters based on any image in your gallery.
How to make a custom filter
Creating a unique filter is quick and simple. Follow these steps:
- Open the Camera app and swipe to Photo mode.
- Tap the three overlapping circles in the top-right corner to access the filter menu.
- Select the plus symbol (+) to create a new filter.
- Pick an image from your gallery to use as a reference.
- A preview of the new filter will appear, allowing you to see how it affects your camera.
- If needed, adjust the reference area by dragging the corners of your chosen image.
- Tap the filter name to rename it, then select "Rename" to confirm.
- Click "Done" to save your new filter.
Fine-tuning your custom filters
While Samsung doesn’t allow manual adjustments to contrast, saturation, or color temperature when creating filters, you can still modify existing filters. To do this:
- Choose a filter, tap on the adjustment bar, and drag the slider to tweak the values.
- Your phone will save these settings, so you don’t have to reapply them each time.
- If needed, tap the reset button to undo any changes.
Limitations and extra tips
Samsung lets users save up to 99 custom filters, which is more than most will ever need. However, filters may not work with all resolution and aspect ratio settings. If the filter option is greyed out, try lowering the camera resolution for compatibility.
This handy trick makes it easier than ever for Samsung users to put a personal touch on their photos—without needing third-party apps.
