Qatar Airways has significantly accelerated the rollout of Starlink wifi internet services across its Boeing 777 fleet.
The Doha-based carrier began introducing Starlink, part of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, in October 2024 and has now equipped 30 of its Boeing 777 aircraft with the high-speed internet system. This represents more than 50 per cent of its entire B777 fleet.
This rapid progress is approximately 70 per cent ahead of the airline’s original schedule for Starlink installation on its Boeing 777s. The impressive pace has been achieved by reducing installation time from 2-3 days to under 10 hours per aircraft.
As a result, Qatar Airways anticipates that its entire fleet of 57 Boeing 777s will be outfitted with Starlink by the end of the second quarter of this year.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Mohammed Al-Meer commented: “We are delivering on our commitment to provide our passengers the best in-flight connectivity at an unprecedented pace. In just four months since launching the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped flight, we have already installed this ground-breaking service on 30 aircraft – far exceeding our initial targets.”
He added: “Starlink wifi is a game-changer for our passengers who will soon enjoy uninterrupted connectivity on even more routes.”
Other airlines, such as AirBaltic, SAS, United Airlines, and Air France, are also expected to introduce Starlink on their aircraft in the coming year.
