New gas and oil reserves have been discovered in the Waziristan block of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.
According to a statement by Mari Energies, which is operating the block, drilling at the Spanwam One well led to the discovery of 12.96 million cubic feet of gas per day along with 20 barrels of crude oil. Drilling operations at the well commenced on May 28, 2024.
Mari Energies serves as the operator of the Waziristan block with a 55% stake, while Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and OPI hold the remaining shares as part of a joint venture.
The company stated that the discovery would contribute to enhancing the country’s hydrocarbon resources, reaffirming its commitment to further exploration efforts.
It also acknowledged the support of national security agencies and the federal and provincial governments in facilitating the discovery.
