Five police officers, including three head constables and two constables, were suspended after they were found guilty of taking Rs1,000 from a citizen's pocket during a routine search in Qila Gujjar Singh area.
According to police sources, the officers had set up a checkpoint where they allegedly took the money from a resident of Azad Kashmir during a routine check. The citizen immediately called 15 helpline of the police to report the misconduct, but the officers pressured him into recording a statement that the complaint was a false alarm.
However, when the Civil Lines superintendent of police launched an inquiry, the officers were found guilty of misconduct. Following the investigation, head constables Hassan, Shakeel, and Tahir, along with constables Tajammal and Imran, were suspended from duty.
