As King Charles III continues to navigate the complexities of the British monarchy he is reportedly seeking alternative avenues to fulfill royal duties.
With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping back as senior members in 2020 and the Duke of York facing exclusion from royal engagements, the King is now forced to reconsider his vision for a slimmed-down monarchy.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl spoke to The Sun about the challenges facing the monarchy. "We don’t have Harry and Meghan over here, who would have been doing so much of the work," Nicholl remarked, underscoring the absence of the couple’s contributions.
Additionally, the Duke of York’s removal from royal duties has left a noticeable gap, further impacting the workload of other family members.
While Princess Anne continues to carry out hundreds of engagements a year despite approaching her 75th birthday, the reduced workload of the Princess of Wales due to her own health struggles has added to the strain.
"There’s got to be a Plan B," Nicholl said, referencing the need for a new approach in light of these shifting dynamics.
The Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, once more integrated into the royal fold, have been encouraged to forge independent careers and lives, distancing themselves from taxpayer-funded security and reducing their reliance on public resources.
This evolving situation is forcing King Charles to reconsider the direction of his monarchy, as the balance between tradition and modernization continues to shift under his reign.
With royal duties spread thin across fewer family members, King Charles’ "Plan B" will likely reshape the future of the British monarchy, as he adapts to these new realities and the reduced scope of royal responsibilities.
