A major accident was narrowly averted at Islamabad International Airport when an international airline’s flight from Dubai encountered an unexpected obstruction on the runway.
The incident occurred as the plane, carrying over 250 passengers, was preparing to land on runway 28L when a stray dog suddenly appeared, according to airport sources. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) immediately informed the captain, who opted to abort the landing and circled the aircraft in the air.
Airport staff promptly dispatched a team to clear the runway, but the dog reappeared on another part of the runway, delaying the landing further. After ensuring the area was secure, the captain made a second attempt and successfully landed the plane, avoiding any mishap.
Authorities are investigating how the dog accessed the runway and are working to enhance measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
