Amid the recent US ban on video editing app CapCut, Instagram wasted no time introducing its alternative: Edits.
Meta’s new free video editing app, designed for creators, is already available for pre-order in the US App Store and is set to launch next month. Instagram head Adam Mosseri also confirmed that an Android version is “coming soon.”
Features
Edits offer tools to capture and edit vertical videos for any platform. For those posting on Instagram, the app integrates seamlessly with Reels, offering real-time video performance insights like engagement metrics.
A dedicated "Inspiration" tab and standard tools such as green screen, overlays, voiceovers, and captions aim to make it a go-to app for creators.
AI and advanced camera
One standout feature of Edits is its AI-powered animation tool, which can bring static images to life. The app also includes advanced camera settings, allowing users to adjust resolution, framerate, dynamic range, flash, and zoom, ensuring high-quality footage.
Edits support collaborative workflows by enabling creators to share and work on video drafts together.
With this release, Meta is positioning itself as a serious player in the video editing space, directly competing with CapCut and other editing tools. Stay tuned for the app’s official launch next month!
