Prince Harry has revealed his genuine hope of reconciling with his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William, following the release of his tell-all memoir Spare in January 2023.
However, the Duke of Sussex reportedly received no response from his family, according to a recent report by Vanity Fair.
In a candid interview, Harry reiterated his love for his father and brother but lamented the lack of any effort from the royal family to mend relations.
His memoir, which made global headlines with its explosive revelations about the British monarchy, became a record-breaking bestseller, selling over six million copies worldwide and earning a Guinness World Record for the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time.
Despite its success, the memoir deepened rifts within the royal family. A source close to Harry disclosed to Vanity Fair that the Duke confided his sadness to a guest at an event last year, expressing disappointment over the absence of communication from his family.
“That’s what made me so sad,” the source quoted Harry as saying, adding, “His hope seemed very genuine.” The source further speculated that Harry may not have fully grasped the potential consequences of publishing such a personal and controversial account of his life.
The Duke of Sussex has often drawn parallels between his late mother, Princess Diana, and his wife, Meghan Markle, voicing concerns about "history repeating itself." These fears, along with other familial grievances, were among the focal points of Spare.
Harry made a brief visit to the UK in February 2023, reportedly during a period when King Charles was battling cancer. This meeting marked their first formal interaction since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
Observers note that the strained relations between Harry and the rest of the royal family remain a matter of public interest, as the Duke continues to advocate for reconciliation while also standing by his and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties.
