An inquiry conducted by the World Food Programme (WFP) revealed financial irregularities exceeding Rs790million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Benazir Nashonuma Programme.
The report uncovered severe administrative lapses and recommended the suspension of the programme in the province.
According to the inquiry, discrepancies were found in the salaries of programme staff.
Employees were not provided with receipts for deductions made from their salaries.
It was also disclosed that the department had collected the full payment amounts from both the WFP and the Benazir Nashonuma Programme, raising concerns over financial transparency.
The report further exposed the presence of 11 ghost employees within the programme.
Highlighting the extent of mismanagement, the inquiry called for a significant overhaul of the programme's administration. It was reported that the programme's management would be transferred from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
