The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has established a new joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the Toshakhana case against President Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and assist the courts in ongoing proceedings.
The formation of the team follows the directives of the FIA Islamabad Zone director, with a formal notification issued to confirm the appointments.
The JIT will investigate Toshakhana cases involving prominent political figures, including President Zardari and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.
According to the notification, the JIT will be led by the FIA additional director of the corporate crime circle. Two officers from the Anti-Corruption Circle, Sub-Inspector Kashif Riaz Awan and Shams Khan, have also been included as members of the team.
The new team aims to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation while supporting the judiciary in handling this high-profile case.
Meanwhile, the hearing of the Toshakhana 2 case against PTI Founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi has been adjourned until January 16. The testimony of two more witnesses was recorded on Tuesday after which the total number of witness testimonies has reached seven.
The defense lawyers completed the cross-examination of a witness and partially cross-examined another. The court has now summoned the former prime minister's military secretary Brig Ahmed Mahmood and deputy military secretary Col Rehan Mahmood to testify. Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand conducted the proceedings.
