Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad raised concerns over the absence of merit in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and confirming his decision to not participate in its 10th edition.
Shehzad, who publicly distanced himself from the league last year, attributed his decision to a growing culture of "favouritism: within the tournament.
“My decision to leave the PSL stems from the absence of merit and prioritisation of connections over genuine talent,” stated Shehzad.
The Lahore-born cricketer openly criticised the league, claiming it had been in decline and expressing disinterest in returning without reforms.
“I did not register for PSL 10 and publicly parted ways with the league last year. They want me to be a part of a league that is declining every year, seeking players who can revive it, but I am not interested without the assurance of merit in this league,” he added.
Shehzad also reiterated his commitment to advocate for "overlooked" players in the Pakistan cricket. “I stand for those who have been overlooked and will continue to fight for justice in our sport. Insha’Allah, I will not relent and will stay firm until the very end,” he declared.
