Tamim Iqbal has announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time.
Tamim initially retired in July 2023 but reversed his decision within 24 hours after intervention from Bangladesh's then-prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
This time, Tamim informed the Bangladesh selectors in Sylhet of his decision. Despite requests from players like captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and discussions with the selection committee, Tamim decided to stick to his retirement.
He expressed gratitude for the consideration but stated he has been away from international cricket for a while and wants to avoid being a distraction during major events like the Champions Trophy.
Tamim emphasized that the decision to retire or continue playing is a personal choice and feels that now is the right time for him to step away from international cricket.
