The security situation in India’s northeastern state of Manipur continues to deteriorate as protests against alleged fake encounters by Indian forces intensify.
According to Indian media reports, members of the Kuki tribe and other groups have taken to the streets, demanding justice. However, instead of addressing their concerns, Indian Army officers have started issuing threats to the demonstrators.
Clashes Erupt as Protesters Target Police Station
The situation took a violent turn when angry protesters attacked a local police station, pelting stones and throwing petrol bombs. During the clash, an Indian Army officer was reportedly injured. The unrest has drawn reactions from India’s political opposition, further exposing the deepening crisis.
Opposition Slams BJP Government
Indian opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the BJP government, accusing it of turning Manipur into a war zone. "Entire villages have been destroyed due to the BJP’s stubbornness. The chief minister has vanished, leaving the people to suffer," he said, condemning the ruling party’s silence over the ongoing violence.
Modi Government Faces Growing Backlash
Observers note that under Narendra Modi’s rule, India has seen a rise in religious intolerance and sectarian violence. Separatist groups gaining control over parts of Manipur further highlight the government’s failure to maintain order. Despite claiming to uphold democracy, the Modi administration has remained largely silent on the crisis, raising concerns over its commitment to justice and human rights.
The escalating tensions in Manipur suggest that without immediate intervention, the region could face an even greater humanitarian and security crisis.
