A gang operating in Karachi is targeting citizens by hacking ATMs and stealing money from their accounts.
CCTV footage of a recent fraud incident in Nazimabad, where a senior citizen was defrauded, has been obtained by SAMAA.
The criminals withdrew 4.5 lakh rupees from the victim's account.
The CCTV footage clearly shows a woman and two accomplices involved in the crime. Police have confirmed that the gang has carried out similar scams in multiple cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi. Recently, one member of the gang was arrested by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
SSP Shuaib Meman stated that the suspects are experts in IT, with the gang also including a woman. The criminals operate by hacking ATMs and waiting outside the bank. When a citizen uses the ATM, their card gets stuck, and as soon as the person leaves, the criminals retrieve the card. One accomplice enters the bank under the pretext of helping the victim and calls the helpline to acquire the victim’s card details, including the password.
