The air quality in Lahore has once again reached hazardous levels, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at an alarming 431, according to the latest reports.
The pollution levels are 58 times higher than the safety standards outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The international air monitor has reported particularly severe AQI readings in various parts of the city. Cantt recorded the highest index at 768, followed by Pine Avenue at 668 and Shimla Pahari at 625. Other affected areas include Government College University and its surroundings at 605, Garden Town at 501, Thokar Niaz Baig at 485, and Johar Town at 480.
Medical experts are urging citizens to take precautions, including wearing masks while outdoors, to minimize exposure to the harmful air pollutants. “Prolonged exposure to such polluted air can have serious health implications, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions,” experts warned.
