The Balochistan Education Department has officially prohibited all political activities in educational institutions across the province following directives from the Balochistan High Court.
A notification issued by the department stated that the ban has been implemented in compliance with the high court's orders. The directive applies to all schools, colleges, and universities within the province.
The notification further warned that strict action will be taken against the heads of institutions found in violation of the ban.
According to a notification published by the College, Higher, and Technical Education Department, the restriction follows a court decision on a constitutional petition brought by Advocate Shabbir Ahmed. The high court raised alarm about the growing tendency of students participating in political activities, describing it as damaging to the nation's future.
Balochistan's political parties are likely to oppose the decision, which may be challenged in court. There has been no apparent reaction from any political party to the restriction on political activities in educational institutions.
The court ruling reads as follows: “No permission in this behalf shall be granted for political gatherings and activities within the premises of educational institutions, and the same shall be completely banned till further orders.”
All heads of institutions have been directed to carefully follow court decisions. Any violation would lead to disciplinary action under the Balochistan Employees' Efficiency and Discipline Act (BEEDA) 2011.
The Balochistan advocate general informed the decision to the education department, emphasising its quick implementation to keep educational institutions focused on academic activities.
