Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz presided over a Provincial Apex Committee meeting to review the security situation and law and order in the province.
During the meeting, CM Maryam paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its people. “We always pray for those who risked their lives for the sake of this holy land,” she remarked.
The meeting included discussions on several critical issues, including proactive measures for public safety, counter-terrorism strategies, and security preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.
CM Maryam emphasized fool-proof arrangements for the peaceful hosting of the Champions Trophy. “We will ensure the best security for cricket teams and spectators. All possible resources are being provided,” she assured.
The Punjab government presented a detailed briefing on advanced measures to protect the lives and property of citizens, as well as arrangements for the tournament. The committee stressed the need for joint actions and continuous coordination among law enforcement agencies to maintain peace.
Key agreements and proposals
- The committee agreed to intensify efforts to eradicate terrorism by targeting malicious elements and dismantling their hideouts.
- An agreement was reached on implementing stricter controls to prevent the misuse of loudspeakers, a common cause of sectarian unrest.
- The committee approved a proposal to transform the Wagah Border Road into a state-of-the-art tourism corridor to boost economic activity in the area.
Highlighting the importance of preparedness, Maryam stated that district coordination committees are now fully operational and working effectively to address local security challenges. She also noted that special forces are being equipped with advanced training and modern safety equipment to manage violent mobs and other potential threats.
CM Maryam linked economic development to security and political stability. “Pakistan is now moving towards economic improvement. Controlling inflation was a difficult task, but we’ve made progress,” she said. She also highlighted daily efforts to stabilise prices of essential commodities such as roti.
The chief minister expressed optimism about the country’s trajectory, stating, “Pakistan is poised for a high economic takeoff. Economic growth and stability are inseparable from law and order.”
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity in Punjab. “There is no place for miscreants and terrorists in the province. We are determined to protect our people and create a safe environment for economic growth,” CM Maryam stated.
