Thomas Fielder, the second secretary of the German Embassy in Islamabad, was found dead in his apartment in the Diplomatic Enclave on Monday.
According to initial reports, the diplomat did not show up at the embassy in the morning and failed to respond to repeated calls, raising concerns among his colleagues.
Staff members from the German Embassy broke down the door to his flat and discovered Fielder unresponsive. Local police were informed, and a team promptly arrived at the scene. The body was transported to hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Fielder’s death was due to medical reasons. “He was known to be suffering from a heart condition,” a police officer familiar with the case stated. However, he added that the cause of death will be ascertained following an autopsy report.
However, sources reveal that the German Embassy has requested local authorities to refrain from further investigations. Such a move is customary under diplomatic immunity protocols.
