The Lahore traffic police received the authority to handcuff offenders involved in illegal parking and encroachments.
According to details, the officials implemented the measure to tackle persistent traffic congestion caused by unlawful activities in busy areas. In the first three days of enforcement, authorities arrested 500 individuals for violations related to unauthorised parking stands and illegal encroachments.
The police aimed to streamline traffic flow and ensure smooth movement across the city.
Officials claimed that the operation focused on removing obstacles and restoring order to areas notorious for traffic jams. Authorities also vowed to maintain the momentum of the crackdown to sustain the improvements.
Newly appointed Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) DIG Athar Waheed stated that the new strategy replaced the previous reliance on repeated fines. He emphasised that stricter enforcement aimed to deter violations and support long-term traffic management reforms.
The initiative targeted key areas affected by bottlenecks, with police taking swift action against offenders. Authorities committed to continue operations to curb violations and ensure compliance with traffic laws.
With the collaboration of various departments, Lahore Traffic Police reiterated their resolve to sustain efforts to clear illegal encroachments and regulate parking effectively.
