Lahore has introduced a groundbreaking blood bank service on the police emergency helpline 15, aiming to streamline the process of blood donation and make it more accessible for citizens in need.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), citizens can contact the emergency blood bank by pressing '4' after dialing the emergency police helpline 15. The service connects the caller to a Safe City officer, who then facilitates a conference call between the requester and the donor database.
To ensure the service's success, 10,000 police personnel have already been registered as blood donors. The database also includes student volunteers and donor agencies.
"This is a significant step in promoting voluntary blood donation and ensuring timely availability for those in need," said the spokesperson.
Citizens can also apply for blood donations or register as donors at service centres set up in all government hospitals across the city.
