The second round of negotiations between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will take place today at 3:30 PM in a closed-door session at the Parliament House, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
This follows the first round of talks on December 23, which ended on a positive note with both sides expressing their willingness to continue discussions.
According to reports, PTI has prepared a comprehensive charter of demands, which will be formally presented to the government team.
The demands are reportedly based on the instructions of PTI's founding chairman, Imran Khan, and include the release of party workers detained during various incidents.

Additionally, PTI is calling for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, which have been significant points of contention.
Inclusion of key figures in negotiations
Notably, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, will join the PTI negotiation committee during today's session. CM Gandapur is expected to raise the issue of the release of political prisoners, including PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
The PTI committee, which will include Asad Qaiser, MWM chief Raja Nasir Abbas, and Hamid Raza, will participate in today's talks. These members are likely to underscore the urgency of addressing the political prisoner issue, in addition to other demands that have been formulated under Imran Khan's leadership.
Govt's position and action plan
On the government’s side, key figures such as Federal Minister Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, Irfan Siddiqui, and others will form the negotiating team. Sources suggest that the government will review the PTI’s charter of demands before formulating its action plan for future negotiations.
In a bid to ensure the negotiations remain on track, both sides have emphasized the importance of avoiding negative media rhetoric. Federal Minister Ishaq Dar expressed frustration over the use of social media to undermine progress, while PTI's Asad Qaiser acknowledged the concern, stressing the need for constructive dialogue.
Commitment to negotiation process
Despite the underlying tension, both the government and opposition committees have reaffirmed their commitment to the negotiation process. The government committee is expected to consult with its allies and the opposition will present a written outline of its demands during today’s session.
The first round of talks, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, had concluded on a hopeful note, with both sides expressing goodwill.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, speaking ahead of the meeting, expressed optimism that both sides would approach the talks with sincerity and an open heart.
He stressed that serious efforts in negotiations would lead to a positive outcome, and hoped that the two sides would find common ground in a short time.
Mr Gohar also stressed that the success of these talks would be a success for Pakistan.
