The headmistress of a government school in Lahore's Johar Town area has been accused of demanding five expensive dresses to verify pension records.
The shocking incident came to light after the complainant, Rehan Bashir, a resident of Iqbal Town, filed a report with the Anti-Corruption Bureau along with a secret recording of the demand.
According to Rehan, he visited the Government Girls High School, Samsani Khoi, Johar Town, to process the pension documents of his late mother. He handed over the papers to the school staff, which took them to the headmistress. He was later informed that the headmistress required five fancy suits in exchange for her signature.
The complainant also recorded the employees asking for the dresses. Despite his insistence when the headmistress did not agree, he got her three dresses and got the documents signed.
Rehan claimed that he filed a complaint with the Education Department, citing misuse of authority and bribery by the headmistress. However, the department allegedly delayed addressing the issue for two months.
With no resolution in sight, Rehan took up the matter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, submitting the recording as evidence.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau summoned the school headmistress, staff, and the chief executive officer (CEO) of education for questioning. Despite the summons, the parties did not appear. The bureau has directed the CEO education to ensure the suspects are presented for investigation.
