Student protests against the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) 2024 joint examination, which began December 13, have escalated into confrontations with law enforcement. Demonstrators are demanding the cancellation of the examination and greater transparency in the selection process.
Police have deployed water cannons and conducted baton charges to disperse the protesters, resulting in multiple injuries requiring hospitalization. Authorities have filed cases against political strategist Prashant Kishor and 700 unnamed protesters, alleging unauthorized organization of demonstrations.
Opposition parties, including Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party, have condemned the police response to the protests. Kishor, who joined the demonstrations in solidarity with students, has called for the government to address concerns about examination transparency, stating "protest is a constitutional right of students and cannot be suppressed."
The government has accused Kishor and Jan Suraj Party of inciting students and disturbing public order. However, Kishor maintains his participation was to show support for the students' demands for examination transparency.
