Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued strict directives to combat human trafficking in Pakistan, including the immediate arrest of individuals involved in the recent migrant boat tragedy near Greece.
Chairing a high-level meeting on the issue, the prime minister was presented with an investigation report on the Greece boat accident. He questioned the lack of action against government officials accused of facilitating human trafficking and the failure to hold them accountable.
PM Shehbaz directed authorities to arrest all those involved in human trafficking within a week and emphasized the need for more effective prosecution mechanisms to ensure justice. He also called for stricter enforcement of visa verification and travel regulations to prevent illegal migration.
"The government of Pakistan is committed to eradicating human trafficking from the country," stated the PM. He announced the formation of a committee, led by the interior minister, to develop a long-term strategy for addressing the root causes of human trafficking.
During the meeting, officials provided a detailed briefing on the identification process of Pakistani nationals involved in the Greece boat accident and the ongoing efforts to repatriate the remains.
