Chicken prices in Peshawar witnessed a sharp increase, rising by Rs70 per kilogram within two days, pushing the cost of live chicken to Rs420 per kilogram.
The surge caused concern among citizens already struggling with inflation. Residents expressed distress over the continuous rise in essential commodities, including flour and vegetables, and criticised the government for failing to regulate prices.
Many reported that chicken had become unaffordable, forcing them to exclude it from their diets. Local poultry dealers attributed the rise to reduced supplies from Punjab.
They warned that prices could climb further if the supply chain disruption persisted. The sudden hike added to the financial strain on households, with citizens urging authorities to implement price controls to stabilise the market.
Poultry vendors noted that demand had dropped due to rising rates, reflecting the financial burden faced by the public.
With inflation continuing to rise, residents feared further price hikes unless immediate measures were taken to address supply shortages.
