Ethnic violence in the Indian state of Manipur continues to escalate, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) facing intense criticism for its inaction and silence over the crisis.
The unrest, attributed to the Modi government’s discriminatory policies, has left the region in turmoil.
Opposition leaders have condemned the BJP, stating that constitutional rights in Manipur have been suspended, yet no BJP lawmakers have raised the issue in parliament. They have called for the resignation of BJP Members of Parliament from Manipur, accusing the ruling party of neglecting the state's plight.
Prominent politician Sushmita Dev highlighted that basic constitutional rights have been stripped away in Manipur, and BJP’s divisive politics extend beyond Manipur to Assam as well.
Adding to the chaos, India’s judiciary has come under scrutiny for its inefficiency. According to Indian media reports, special investigative teams have filed charges in only 6% of the 3,023 registered cases related to the Manipur violence.
In a recent incident, two individuals were shot dead by unidentified armed assailants, further exacerbating the already dire situation. Critics argue that the Modi government is exploiting ethnic tensions for political gain, worsening the crisis in Manipur.
