Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of federal ministers in parliament and has directed them to prioritise their attendance in the House.
In a letter addressed to all federal ministers, the prime minister directed the ministers to ensure their presence during parliamentary proceedings, emphasising the importance of accountability, transparency, and public trust in democratic institutions.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, PM Shehbaz wrote, “The absence of cabinet members harms the principles of accountability and transparency and undermines the public's confidence in democratic governance. It is unacceptable for ministers to delegate their constitutional responsibilities to subordinates.”
The letter further pointed out that such practices reflect a lack of seriousness in governance. To address this, the PM has issued strict directives, including:
- Ensuring regular attendance in the House and active participation in parliamentary proceedings.
- Being present in their chambers at parliament for official matters during sessions.
- Avoiding other meetings during question hour and debates in the House.
