Inflation has compelled ministers and parliamentarians to raise their voices, with the Law Minister sharing details about the salaries and privileges of lawmakers in the Senate session chaired by Senator Irfan Siddiqui.
Minister for Law, Azam Nazeer Tarar, highlighted the disparity between lawmakers’ salaries and public perception. He revealed that parliamentarians earn a salary of Rs156,000 and do not receive government-provided vehicles.
Additionally, lawmakers are given Rs8,000 for utility bill payments, a sum Tarar criticized, saying it is insufficient to cover even basic living costs.
Tarar clarified that ministers' salaries are set at Rs232,000, but 95% of ministers do not claim their salaries.
Furthermore, ministers are entitled to a 1500cc vehicle and 400 liters of fuel, but they must personally pay for their electricity and gas bills.
On the topic of media regulations, the Law Minister also addressed violations by news channels, which have faced fines and occasional closures.
He emphasized the importance of providing healthy content on TV to counter the negative effects of mobile phones on children.
