Significant developments have come to light in the alleged murder case of a Punjab University student from gunfire.
It has been revealed that the incident occurred near the sports gymnasium at the university, where the student was fatally shot while sitting in a vehicle. The victim, identified as Rana Ammar, was shot at while sitting in a vehicle's front seat near the university's sports gymnasium.
According to sources, the shooting was allegedly carried out by a student named Huzaifa, who was sitting in the rear seat of the vehicle at the time of the incident. Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene.
After the shooting, another student, Dilawar, along with an unidentified individual, transferred Ammar to a different vehicle and rushed him to Sheikh Zayed Hospital. However, Ammar succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Both Dilawar and the unidentified person were detained by the police after they brought the injured student to the hospital.
Call for justice
The victim’s uncle, Rana Irshad, expressed grief over his nephew's loss, stating that Ammar was not affiliated with any student organization nor did he have any enmity with anyone.
"Justice must be served by punishing the murderers," he demanded.
'No shooting on campus'
Later on Thursday, in a news conference, PU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood, along with the registrar and chief security officer, attempted to address the rumours surrounding the alleged shooting at the university.
Dr Mahmood confirmed that the university had received information about a student being shot somewhere and subsequently dying. "The Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) activists reported firing at five places at different times. All five locations were investigated by the police and security staff, and CCTV footage reviewed," said Dr. Mahmood.
The Pro-VC claimed that their investigation showed no shooting incident had actually taken place within the university premises. He also claimed there was no eyewitness to the shooting incident; neither bullet shell nor blood was found from any place.

The deceased was a student of gender studies and the nephew of a university administrative officer, he added.
He emphasized that there was no evidence of such an incident on the new campus. Dr Mahmood noted that the exact location of the shooting incident remains unclear and is not confirmed to have happened at the university. "The IJT is deliberately blaming the administration of PU. IJT activists attacked the admin block, broke the windows, attacked the canteen and vandalised it."
Dr Mahmood urged students and staff to refrain from protests until the investigation is completed. "We do not know in which part of the city the incident occurred, but we are committed to fully cooperating with the authorities to uncover the facts," he added.
The speakers said the PU administration would not get blackmailed by anyone, urging the media, students, teachers and employees not to believe in hearsay.
