Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been facing flight disruptions due to a fuel supply suspension by Pakistan State Oil (PSO). The suspension is reportedly due to PIA's non-payment of dues.
According to sources, PSO has stopped fuel supply to PIA only for non-payment of Rs 10 million out of Rs 1.5 million, whereas, the national carrier had paid dues of Rs 1.4 million on October 9.
PSO sources say that PIA has once again failed to pay as promised, due to which fuel supply has been stopped in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar.
As a result of the fuel supply suspension, two domestic flights have been affected: a flight from Faisalabad to Karachi has been delayed and a flight from Islamabad to Sukkur has been cancelled.
PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan said that the stoppage of fuel supply has not affected flights abroad, which are departing according to their schedule.
The fuel supply suspension is a major blow to PIA, which is already struggling financially. The airline has been forced to cancel or delay flights on several occasions in recent months due to a shortage of funds.
The suspension is also a major inconvenience for passengers, who are now facing uncertainty about their travel plans.
It is unclear when the fuel supply suspension will be lifted. PIA has said that it is working with PSO to resolve the issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before they travel.
