Winter has begun making its mark on Karachi with nighttime temperatures steadily dropping in the port city.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted further declines in temperature over the next few days, signaling the long-awaited arrival of cooler weather for Karachiites.
The PMD’s three-day weather forecast indicates that Karachi is likely to experience cool and dry conditions, with nighttime temperatures expected to range between 17°C and 19°C from December 3 to 4. Daytime weather, however, will remain predominantly dry.
During the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature was recorded at 17.8°C, with a humidity level of 58%, accompanied by light winds blowing from the northeast.
Sindh and Balochistan face changing weather
While Karachi braces for cooler nights, other parts of Sindh are also witnessing changing weather patterns. The PMD has forecast light rain or drizzle in districts Kambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Larkana on Sunday. Upper Sindh districts, including Sukkur and Shikarpur, may see temperatures dipping as low as 16°C later in the week.
Balochistan, meanwhile, has experienced a significant drop in temperatures following heavy rain and hailstorms in its northeastern districts. In Duki, a 42-year record for hailstorms was broken, according to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). The adverse weather damaged hundreds of solar panels and uprooted trees in the area.
Chilly winds sweeping across the province have plunged temperatures, with the mercury dropping to -3°C in the Kan Mehtarzai area of Chaman. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that temperatures could dip as low as -7°C in northern districts near the border in the coming days.
Rain and snow in northern regions
Elsewhere in the country, northern areas are experiencing a mix of rain and snowfall. Light to moderate rain and wind-thunderstorms have been affecting parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since November 29, with snowfall reported in mountainous regions.
Areas impacted include Waziristan, Kurram, Mohmand, Khyber, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, and Abbottabad, among others. In addition, light rain or drizzle is expected in the Pothohar region, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, and parts of central Punjab, including Mianwali, Bhakkar, and Layyah.
