Despite being designated as a day for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to meet party founder Imran Khan, no leaders, lawmakers, family members or lawyers arrived at Adiala Jail for the scheduled meeting on Thursday.
Khan is currently on physical remand in the custody of the Rawalpindi Police. No party leader turned up to meet the former prime minister till the time for meeting prisoners as per the jail manual ended.
According to Adiala Jail sources, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja contacted the jail authorities by phone but was not provided any information regarding the meeting.
Separately, Khan's lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, sent a WhatsApp message to the jail superintendent, expressing serious concern for his client’s well-being and requesting an immediate meeting. He adopted the stance that in the previous meeting, the PTI founder told him he had been treated inhumanely.
"My client was kept in solitary confinement against the laws previously as well. I am seriously concerned about his well-being," Chaudhry told the authorities, adding that the prison administration did not respond to his request.
However, Adiala Jail authorities clarified that Khan is not under their custody. They stated that his detention cell in the jail has been declared part of Rawalpindi's New Town police station during his physical remand, and the Rawalpindi Police now control decisions regarding meetings.
