Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has announced his next film, which he is not only going to produce, but also star in.
Titled ‘Sitare Zameen Par’, the upcoming film follows the same theme as the emotional 2007 hit ‘Taare Zameen Par’, Aamir told a News18 India event. He added that while the latter made people cry, the new film will take the audience on a laughter-filled journey.
While revealing the title of the film, the ‘Lagaan’ star said he had not spoken about it publicly before and would not be able to say much this time also.
“You must have remembered my film ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and the name of this film is ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ because we are moving 10 steps ahead with the same theme. ‘Taare…’ was an emotional film, this film will make you laugh. That film made you cry this one will entertain you,” Aamir said at the event.
He further elaborated that the theme of the new film would be the same, which was why the name had been kept thoughtfully.
“We all have flaws, we all have weaknesses, but we all also have something special. In the last film, my character helps the character of the special child Ishaan. In ‘Sitare Zameen Par’, those nine boys, who have their own issues, they help me. It's the opposite."
According to the PTI news agency, Aamir Khan is set to not only act in but also produce ‘Sitare Zameen Par’.
In addition to this, Aamir revealed that he is producing three films: ‘Laapata Ladies’ directed by his ex-wife Kiran Rao, another one featuring his son Junaid Khan, and ‘Lahore 1947’ directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Sunny Deol.
'Would have quit films...'
At the same event, the ‘Dhoom’ actor said he would have quit films had it not been for his children. He added that he was “angry and irritated” with himself for not being able to spend time with her children and family members.
The 58-year-old superstar said he realized around 2.5 years ago that his passion for cinema had consumed him so much that it had taken over his life.
“Around 2.5 years ago, I realised I was so lost in my passion that I hadn’t given enough time to my relationships. I was disturbed and unhappy. I would have left films if not for my children. I was angry and irritated with myself,” Aamir said at the event.
He further said he could not go back to the time when his son Junaid was five or daughter Ira four. “We need to understand what we want to do with our time. I’ve become mindful. I’ve been in therapy for 2 years. I believe we are not trained to do everything,” he added.
Daughter's wedding, son's debut
The actor-producer shared he was looking forward to his son’s debut film and excited about his daughter’s wedding in January.
‘Taare Zameen Par’, a critically acclaimed film produced and directed by Aamir Khan, featured the superstar, alongside Darsheel Safary, Tanay Chheda, Vipin Sharma, and Tisca Chopra. It revolved around an eight-year-old gifted boy, Ishaan, discovering his true potential with the help of his art teacher, played by Aamir, who identifies his struggle with dyslexia.
Aamir was last seen in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, an official remake of the Hollywood classic ‘Forrest Gump’, alongside Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya, and Mona Singh. After the film tanked at the box office, Khan announced a temporary break from acting to focus on his family.
