Laila Wasti - a seasoned actress known for her compelling performances - recently shared her thoughts on playing age-appropriate roles in Pakistani dramas.
The actress, who has graced popular productions such as Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay and Khaie, spoke candidly about her preferences regarding on-screen pairings during Samaa TV's program Gap Shab with Vasay Chaudhary.
Wasti, who has portrayed motherly roles in several dramas, including playing Mahira Khan’s mother in Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, has been vocal about the industry’s casting trends.
Addressing the issue of younger actors being cast in roles that do not align with their age, she highlighted the importance of sensible casting, which resonates with viewers.
She appreciated age-appropriate casting, citing her recent pairing with veteran actor Faysal Quraishi as an example of a well-received collaboration.
“It was a pairing that made sense and was appreciated by the audience,” she remarked.
However, Wasti admitted she is less comfortable playing the wife of actors who are significantly older than her.
She stated that while she is open to playing the mother of older actors if the role is substantial, she prefers portraying characters such as widows in situations where the age difference between her and her on-screen partner is pronounced.
