27 Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have proposed a resolution demanding stringent measures to address the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The resolution, reported by Indian media, calls for multiple critical interventions in the conflict-ridden state. Key demands include deploying additional military forces, invoking special powers through the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), and declaring the Kuki community as an illegal organization within seven days.
MLAs have urged the central government to transfer the Manipur case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), signaling a push for comprehensive nationwide scrutiny of the situation.
Central to the controversy is the role of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticizing the central government's apparent inaction. Ramesh accused the government of maintaining complete silence on the Manipur issue.
In response to the escalating tensions, the Modi government has decided to deploy an additional 5,000 military personnel to the state, underscoring the severity of the ongoing conflict.
