Indian officials have reported that Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of imprisoned gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been detained in California by US authorities. However, there is no official confirmation yet.
Sources indicate that Bishnoi, who allegedly coordinated gang activities alongside Goldy Brar from the US, was detained approximately four to five days ago. His last known location was Fresno, California, but it remains unclear if the detention occurred there. Efforts are underway to gather further details through official channels.
This marks the second significant detention of a wanted gangster in recent weeks, following Arshdeep Singh Gill, alias Arsh Dalla’s, detention in Canada last month.
US authorities were reportedly in contact with Mumbai Police regarding Bishnoi’s whereabouts. Mumbai Police are investigating his alleged involvement in two high-profile cases: a firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence on April 14 and the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Bandra East on October 12. Officials are preparing an extradition request for Bishnoi.
Bishnoi has been listed as ‘most wanted’ by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with a million INR reward for his capture. The NIA alleges that Bishnoi and Brar oversee the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s operations from abroad, managing extortion rackets, killings, and connections with pro-Khalistan groups such as Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, active in multiple Indian states, has links with singers, industrialists, political figures, and the film industry, often targeting them for extortion. This nexus has drawn parallels to Mumbai’s underworld before the 1993 blasts.
Anmol Bishnoi is also suspected of involvement in the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022. Authorities continue to investigate the extensive criminal network led by the gang’s overseas operatives.
