As cities like Lahore and other plains in Punjab struggle under a blanket of severe smog, Murree stands out as a rare refuge free from air pollution.
Nestled at an altitude of 7,500 feet above sea level, Murree enjoys clean, crisp air and clear skies, drawing visitors eager to escape the hazardous smog affecting much of the region.
The reasons for Murree's smog-free atmosphere are highlighted by Zahid Hussain, the in-charge of the Meteorological Department, who explains, “The primary reason Murree is free from smog is its high altitude of 7,000 feet. It has open air, dense forests, and minimal vehicular traffic compared to other cities.”
Murree’s scenic beauty is enhanced by bright sunlight and a clear blue sky, giving residents and visitors a welcome break from polluted city environments. “The weather here is very pleasant, with no smog at all, unlike other cities still enveloped in smog,” said a visitor.
Locals emphasize the need for planting more trees and taking collective action to control air pollution across Punjab. With sustained efforts, similar conditions could be achieved elsewhere.
