Tensions have erupted in Manipur's Jiribam district following a controversial police operation that resulted in the death of ten members of the Kuki Christian community on November 11. Local authorities have imposed a curfew in the area to maintain law and order.
Police officials claim the deceased were involved in militant activities. However, Kuki tribal representatives strongly dispute this narrative, asserting that the victims were village volunteers from their community.
The situation has further deteriorated with reports of six individuals, including three women and three children, going missing from the Jiribam area. Additionally, authorities discovered the bodies of two elderly individuals amid debris, showing signs of physical trauma.
Kuki-majority districts have announced a strike in response to the incident. Community leaders have stated that protests will continue until law enforcement issues a public apology for the operation.
Tribal representatives have also alleged that security forces assisted in the looting and burning of village properties. The incident has heightened existing tensions in the region, where minority communities have reported ongoing persecution.
The area remains under strict security measures as authorities attempt to prevent any escalation of the situation.
