The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) announced the closure of two major motorways on Sunday as heavy fog and smog severely impacted visibility, posing a serious risk to motorists.
The M-4 motorway, stretching from Pindi Battian to Abdul Hakeem, was closed for traffic along with the Lahore-Multan M-3 motorway, which was shut down from Lahore to Durkhana.
An NHMP spokesperson confirmed the closures, stating that they were implemented for the safety of road users. The spokesperson urged travelers to limit their trips and advised them to travel only during daylight hours, particularly between 10 AM and 6 PM, when visibility is expected to improve.
Motorists were also warned to use fog lights and refrain from unnecessary travel in the affected areas.
The NHMP emphasised that speeding and tailgating should be avoided to prevent accidents in these hazardous conditions.
The police also urged drivers to call the emergency number 130 in case of any incidents or emergencies on the road.
The ongoing fog and smog conditions have caused significant disruptions to traffic, and the NHMP has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety on the motorways during these adverse weather conditions.
