Ruud van Nistelrooy is focusing on his current role at Manchester United, despite the imminent arrival of Ruben Amorim as the club's new permanent manager.
In a pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday's Europa League clash against Greek side PAOK, Van Nistelrooy confirmed that he has yet to discuss his future with Amorim, who is set to take over at Old Trafford on November 11. The Dutchman, temporarily managing United after Erik ten Hag's dismissal last week, stated, "No, I didn’t have contact so far, there are no changes in that," when asked about his conversations with the Portuguese boss.
Van Nistelrooy, a former United striker, has already overseen two key results in his short tenure: a 5-2 win over Leicester in the League Cup and a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League. However, his primary focus is now on securing a crucial win in Europe. Despite United's shaky start in the Europa League, where they have drawn all three of their opening games, Van Nistelrooy emphasized that Thursday's match against PAOK at Old Trafford is his top priority.
"In the meantime, obviously there’s one thing that’s the most important for this football club now, which is getting the work done on a daily basis and in the game coming up tomorrow in Europe," he said.
The Dutch coach, who previously expressed a desire to remain at the club, admitted that he remains uncertain about his future beyond next week. "It’s difficult to comment on that now, I am waiting for conversations to take place," he added.
**Meanwhile, Manchester United received positive news regarding young defender Leny Yoro’s recovery from injury.**
The 18-year-old, who joined from Lille for a fee that could rise to €70 million in July, participated in team training for the first time in three months. Yoro had been sidelined due to a metatarsal injury sustained during pre-season, which required surgery.
Van Nistelrooy shared his optimism about the young defender's progress, saying, "He's been managed very well after his injury in pre-season, obviously it was going to be a long one, and it’s a big moment for him."
As Van Nistelrooy continues to manage United in the lead-up to Amorim's arrival, all eyes will be on the club's performance in their upcoming Europa League fixture against PAOK.
