Singer Cardi B joined US Vice President Kamala Harris at the 'When We Vote We Win' rally in Wisconsin on Friday, where she delivered a powerful speech at the concert event in Milwaukee.
The rally featured several other performers, including GloRilla, MC Lyte, the Isley Brothers, Flo Milli, and DJ Gemini Gilly.
In her address, the Grammy-winning rapper drew comparisons between herself and Harris, saying, “Just like Kamala Harris, I too have been the underdog. I’ve been underestimated, my success belittled and discredited. Women have to work 10 times harder, perform 10 times better, and still, people question how we got to the top,” as reported by 'Variety'.
Cardi B also shared that she initially hadn’t planned to vote in the upcoming election until Harris entered the presidential race. She previously voiced frustration with the administration, criticizing its financial support of, as she put it, “funding two wars.”
However, the *Up* singer expressed appreciation for Harris' economic initiatives, including a proposal to curb price gouging and assist first-time homebuyers with down payments. “[Harris] is promising a lot… and I believe her… ” Cardi said, adding that Harris’ entry into the race “changed my mind completely.”
Cardi B explained that she had faith in Harris’ message, saying, “I did not have faith for any candidate until she joined the race and said the things that I wanted to hear — things I want to see next in this country. I believe in every word that comes out of her mouth; she’s passionate, she’s compassionate, she shows empathy, and most of all, she is not delusional.”
In her speech, Cardi B also referred to Donald Trump as “Donald Dump,” criticizing his stance on women’s rights. “If your definition of protection is making sure our daughters have fewer rights than their mothers, then I don’t want it.” she stated.
