Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and Tamil actor Suriya are set to collaborate in an unprecedented cinematic move as both actors prepare to shoot their respective versions of Ghajini 2 simultaneously.
According to reports, the Hindi and Tamil versions of the highly anticipated sequel will be filmed in parallel, with a shared release date planned to offer fans an exciting experience across languages.
The decision to shoot simultaneously stems from concerns raised by both Aamir Khan and Suriya regarding the novelty of the franchise. The producers, Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena, aim to avoid a scenario where one version undercuts the other’s anticipation.
“They are both excited about Ghajini 2 but want to ensure it doesn’t feel like a mere remake,” a source close to the production revealed. This unique approach reflects a growing trend in Indian cinema, where major releases cater to both Hindi-speaking and South Indian audiences simultaneously.
Storyline and vision
Both actors are expected to reprise their iconic roles from the original films, with Aamir Khan leading the Hindi version and Suriya returning as the protagonist in Tamil. The original Ghajini films, directed by AR Murugadoss, were massive successes, particularly Khan’s version, which became the first Bollywood film to gross over ₹100 crores at the box office.
The sequel, however, promises a fresh narrative while preserving the emotional depth and action-packed sequences that made the originals so popular.
Speaking about the sequel, Suriya, during a promotional event for his upcoming fantasy action film Kanguva, shared his enthusiasm for the project. "After a long time, Allu Aravind approached me with the idea of Ghajini 2, and things are in process. We're all excited to explore this new chapter."
On the other hand, Aamir Khan has been in ongoing discussions with the producers, requesting a well-developed storyboard before officially committing to the film. Khan’s meticulous approach is expected to ensure the sequel lives up to the high expectations of fans.
Production plans
The joint production venture between Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena will involve simultaneous shoots for both versions, likely beginning in early 2025. By coordinating production and release schedules, the filmmakers hope to create an event-like experience, releasing both films on the same date.
While the supporting cast is yet to be announced, there is speculation that Asin, who starred in both the Hindi and Tamil versions of the original film, may return for the sequel. However, details of her involvement remain undisclosed.
Audience anticipation
The original Ghajini films had a lasting impact on Indian cinema, blending thrilling action sequences with emotional storytelling. Fans of both Aamir Khan and Suriya are eagerly awaiting what the sequel has to offer. The producers are conscious of this and are committed to maintaining the integrity of the Ghajini legacy.
